STANDARDISED PAEDIATRIC ASTHMA QUALITY OF LIFE QUESTIONNAIRE (PAQLQ(S))

Introduction

The original Paediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAQLQ) has three questions in the activity domain that are "patient-specific". Each child chooses three activities which they do regularly and in which they are bothered by their asthma. These three activities remain constant at each follow-up visit. Although this works beautifully in theory, because one can focus on the individual child’s problems, it does not work in practice. This is because children change their activities and asking them to identify the three activities can be time-consuming.In the Standardised Paediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAQLQ(S)), the three patient-specific questions have been replaced by generic activity questions (the same for all children). These three generic activity questions incorporate the activities that were most frequently chosen by children when we used the original PAQLQ. The PAQLQ(S) is now used in many studies and clinics and has almost completely replaced the original PAQLQ. The validation study for the PAQLQ(S) is currently being analysed. Initial results suggest that the measurement properties and validity are almost identical to the original PAQLQ.
